I, personally dont use it. But that being said I dont blog so dont see a need for it.

I have heard good things about WordPress, and my friend is currently getting into coding them and creating custom widgets.

Hi, wordpress is a great CMS for beginners getting into blogging or just a normal site wordpress would be the way to go but there are so many CMS out there like Wordpress, which offer different features etc and easier to customise template from plain XHTML/CSS to Wordpress.
